Static fire curtains and flexible fire barriers close off the large voids in a building, such as ceiling voids, roof spaces and raised floors, so fire and smoke can’t travel through them unseen. TECL is an approved Firefly installer, and we also install Rockwool cavity barrier systems.
Why voids need fire barriers
Hidden voids often run across compartment walls and above escape routes. Without barriers, fire and smoke can spread through them and bypass the fire-resisting walls below. Approved Document B requires cavity barriers to keep compartments intact and limit the size of concealed spaces.
What we install
- Firefly flexible fire barriers and static fire curtains for ceiling and roof voids
- Horizontal fire barriers for floor and ceiling voids
- Rockwool cavity barriers in walls and floor voids
- Fire stopping around services that pass through barriers
- Remedial barrier works in existing buildings
Approved Firefly installer
As an approved Firefly installer, our operatives are trained by the manufacturer to install its flexible fire barriers exactly to their tested details, from fixing and overlaps to sealing around services. That means the barrier performs as it did in the fire test.
How we work
Our fire stopping division, led by Adam Duffield, installs every barrier to the building’s fire strategy and the manufacturer’s tested details. Each barrier is photographed, located and signed off for building control, your O&M manual and the golden thread. We’re certified under FIRAS and LPS 1531, and we issue an LPCB or FIRAS certificate for the job, whichever you prefer.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a static fire curtain?
A fixed, flexible fire-resisting barrier installed permanently in a void, such as a ceiling or roof space, to stop fire and smoke spreading through it. Unlike an automatic fire curtain, it doesn’t move.
What is the difference between a fire barrier and a cavity barrier?
Both stop fire spreading through hidden spaces. Flexible fire barriers usually close large voids such as roof spaces; cavity barriers close narrower cavities in walls and floors.
Are you an approved Firefly installer?
Yes. TECL is an approved Firefly installer, trained to install its flexible fire barriers to their tested details.
